Greenhouse Gas Effect
There is the natural greenhouse gas effect that keeps the Earth's climate warm and habitable and there is the man-made greenhouse effect, which is the enhancement of Earth's natural greenhouse effect by the addition of greenhouse gases caused by the burning of fossil fuels.
Basically, the sun's radiation is trapped naturally by the Greenhouses gases that escape from the Earth, thus making the Earth warm for us to live.
However due to the increased burning of fossil fuels and use of cars etc the levels of carbon dioxide are increasing, therefore the greenhouse gas layer is trapping more of the infrared radiation from the sun, therefore making the earth warmer and potentially leading to climate change.
